Mr. Werner Haug, a national of Switzerland, was appointed Director of UNFPA’s Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office in June 2012. Prior to joining EECARO, Mr. Haug was the Director of the Fund’s Technical Division at its Headquarters in New York, where he served for four years.

Before joining UNFPA, Mr. Haug worked for 15 years for the Swiss Federal Statistical Office as Deputy Director and Head of the Department for Population, Health and Labour Statistics. He managed several cooperation projects on population and development in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Mr. Haug holds a PhD in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Zürich and lectured at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.
