| Farewell to 3 Population and Development champions |
At the end of June EPF is sad to say goodbye to three champions from the population and development field, who will all begin their well-earned retirement; Ms. Safiye Çağar, Ms. Thea Fierens and Mr. Shiv Khare.
|
- Ms. Safiye Çağar, Director of Information and External Relations Department (IERD) of UNFPA, is retiring after a long and distinguished career within the UN. Over the past ten years at EPF we could not have been nearly as successful or influential as we are now without her support, guidance and inspiration. We – and the population and development community - will sorely miss her, and hope that her retirement is both interesting and relaxing.
- Ms. Thea Fierens, UNFPA Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, is retiring from her career as a politician and influential advocate in the SRHR field. The Eastern Europe and Central Asia region is a fascinating mixture of cultures and languages; of challenges and successes, and at EPF we have felt privileged to be able to experience these with her. We wish her all the very best for her retirement and wish her replacement Mr. Werner Haug all the very best in his new and exciting role.
- Mr. Shiv Khare, Executive Director of the Asian Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (EPF’s sister network) is retiring after a career at the forefront of parliamentary advocacy on population and development issues. Since 1993, Shiv Khare has been the main organizer of the UNFPA-sponsored international parliamentarians’ conferences on population and development in Cairo, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo and Bangkok. With Shiv’s departure EPF will lose a friend, ally and role model, and we wish him all the very best for a fruitful and rewarding retirement.
