2006 - Bangkok

Fifth EPF Council meeting, 21 November 2006, Bangkok

In advance of the IPCI 2006, the EPF Executive Committee convened an EPF Council meeting of representatives of its member all-party parliamentary groups. Twenty-three Parliamentarians from around Europe gathered together to update on the progress they had made nationally as well as discuss and decide upon EPF matters, including: 2005-2006 activities report, admission of new members, elections to the EPF Executive Committee, elections for a new EPF President and discussions on draft 2007 work-plan (see page 5 for Executive Committee election results).

In addition to electing the new members of the Executive Committee, the EPF Council took up several other issues.  The Council approved the membership of the new all-party Parliamentary group from Denmark, which was represented by the Honourable Kristen Brosbol.  The Council also noted the dissolution of the Polish and Bulgarian APPGs, and welcomed news of a potential new APPG in Azerbaijan.

The Council heard a report on the Secretariat’s activities during the past year, and received the new EPF 2005-2006 Annual Report and 5-Year Retrospective.   They reviewed EPF’s 2007 work plan and calendar of upcoming events and adopted a series of amendments to EPF’s statutes in line with the new Belgian legislation on international non-profit organisations.  The Council also heard reports from the representatives of the individual APPGs on their recent activities and future plans.

The EPF Council gave its heartfelt thanks to outgoing President Ruth Genner (MP, Switzerland) and the other departing members of the Executive Committee:  Ms Sonia Fertuzinhos (MP, Portugal), Mr Eugenio Castillo (MP, Spain) and Ms Claude Greff (MP, France).
